Ramara Restricts Fireworks In Lagoon City

At the Council meeting last night, members of the Council
unanimously decided to ban the use of fireworks within the boundary area of Lagoon City.

In 2021, the Township of Ramara implemented a fireworks by-law to reduce accidents and environmental risks of using consumer Fireworks in residential areas. Through this by-law, certain areas of the Township were required to apply for a Fireworks permit through the

Fire and Rescue Services department and follow all outlined requirements.

The Fireworks By-law outlines the following restrictions for the use of Commercial and Residential fireworks:
Fireworks are banned in the following areas:
Boundary area of Lagoon City
Short-Term Rental Accommodation locations.
Fireworks are banned when a Fire Ban is in effect.
Fireworks must not be used on any municipally owned land or roadway.
A Fireworks permit is required, other than on specific holidays, in the following areas:
Bayshore Village
All properties within the Township of Ramara that are zoned:
Shoreline Residential (SR)
Village Residential (VR)
Hamlet (H)

Before requesting a Fireworks Permit, the public is reminded of the following:
There must be a minimum clear area of 30 metres by 30 metres;
No person shall discharge fireworks within 100 metres of any place where explosives, gasoline or other highly flammable substances are sold or stored;
A extinguishing agent must be on hand;
Wind speed must not exceed 20 km/hr;
Tenants requesting a permit must receive authorization from the owner.
