Pride Sidewalk Damaged At Orillia School

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a sidewalk painted in support of Pride has been damaged at a local area high school.

On June 9, 2024, just before midnight, police were alerted that someone had just put paint on the pride sidewalk at a local area high school in the area of Park Street in the City of Orillia. Witnesses indicated the suspect had just fled the area and was possibly headed toward Brant Street.

The Orillia OPP assisted by the Orillia Detachment Major Crime Unit is continuing this investigation as a hate crime investigation. The OPP takes hate-motivated crimes very seriously as they undermine public safety, negatively impact our communities and can escalate toward criminal extremism. Hate-motivated crimes are illegal under the Criminal Code. It is important that hate-motivated crimes and incidents are reported to the police.
