Pedestrian Airlifted To Hospital After Being Struck By Impaired Driver In Orillia

The Orillia OPP has charged a driver with impaired operation in relation to a two-vehicle collision where a pedestrian was struck in the City of Orillia.

On December 29, 2022, at 3:15 p.m., Orillia OPP and emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Park Street and Collegiate Drive in Orillia. An 8-year-old pedestrian, who was crossing at the intersection, was struck due to the two-vehicle collision. The child was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto-area hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, William Hutton, 66 years of age, of Orillia, has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following:

· Operation Causing Bodily Harm
· Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on January 10, 2023.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation. The intersection of Park Street and Collegiate Drive was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since reopened.
