OPP Warns Don’t Touch It, Report It, if You Find a Marker Flare on the Beach

Southern Georgian Bay OPP would like to inform the public on what to do if they locate what is known as a military marker flare. These flares sometimes make it onto the beach areas where they become visible to the public.

These flares are cylinder shaped, approximately 10 cm x 40 cm in length and will have a code on it that says “if located notify police.” These flares could potentially be harmful if tampered with, so please do not touch if located. These flares are used by the military to mark waters during training exercises. Please notify your local police service if you find one of these canister type flares.

The Southern Georgian Bay OPP will notify the military for proper disposal of the flare.
