Two Non-Residents Charged
As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from Southern Georgian Bay and Orillia Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police removed a quantity of suspected fentanyl from North Simcoe communities after arresting two individuals at approximately 1:30 p.m. January 31, 2024.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 93 in Springwater Township resulting in the seizure and the arrest of the two occupants of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, Jahiem Billy, 22 years of North York as a result of this investigation is charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
- Trafficking in Schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 7, 2024.
The passenger in the vehicle, Sherquan Remy, 20 years of Toronto has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
- Trafficking in Schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
- Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused remains in custody for a bail hearing and will appear at a future date before the Ontario Court of Justice.
