Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP and the Township of Tay staff are warning the community of a phone scam in the Tay Township area.

A male was calling Tay Township households throughout the past week, falsely identifying himself as a member of the Tay Fire and Emergency Department and asking for financial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. The Tay Fire and Emergency Services is not fundraising at this time and only collect funds during the annual “Boot Drive,” which is a publicized public event held on the roadway in front of the Victoria Harbour Fire Station. Officers and township staff urge anyone who is asked to make a donation over the phone by an unknown person to contact the organization in question to confirm the validity of the request before providing any personal information or financial support to the caller.
