Giving Tuesday Efforts Net a Blanket Warmer and an Ice Machine

Just over $12,000 will be put towards improving the patient experience at Soldiers’ thanks to the generosity of the public and an incredible community partner, Subaru of Orillia. This Giving Tuesday, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation asked the public to give the Gift of Patient Comfort by supporting the purchase of ice machines and blanket warmers for the Hospital.

Subaru of Orillia matched the first $5,000 of donations to come in to the Giving Tuesday Gift of Comfort campaign — which was achieved quickly. “We couldn’t be happier to join forces with the Hospital Foundation to match donations from the public for this important cause,” said Rob Stein, Owner, Subaru of Orillia. “It’s amazing to see the community rally around the Hospital with this kind of support in such a short amount of time.”

The fundraiser centred around Giving Tuesday, which took place December 3, celebrated the global giving movement that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The day of generosity has steadily gained momentum across Canada since launching in 2013.

“Not only was the campaign successful in terms of the funds raised, but it was also an opportunity to educate the public about seemingly insignificant pieces of equipment that actually have a major impact on the health and wellbeing of patients,” said Lisa Wanamaker, OSMH Foundation Development Officer. “Patients who are feeling anxious before or after a procedure will now be comforted by a warm blanket and nurses will be able to provide better care for patients without travelling to other floors to find ice.”

With the money raised, Soldiers’ will be able to purchase one ice machine and one blanket warmer. To support the purchase of additional units, please visit osmhfoundation.ca/donate or phone the office at 705-325-6464.
