The OPP responded to Orillia Secondary School yesterday in response to reports of a potential threat, according to a press release.

The school alerted the police around 11:27 a.m. when school administrators received a menacing phone call from an anonymous source. The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) mobilized to address the situation.

Upon their arrival, police worked with school administrators to address the threat. Staff and students inside the school were relocated to a central area, and students outside the building were asked to remain there. A comprehensive search of the school was conducted. The police determined there was no threat and allowed staff and students back in the school.

An investigation revealed the identity and location of a suspect who allegedly made the threat. The suspect was arrested without incident and brought into police custody.

A 54-year-old female resident of Orillia faces charges of uttering threats and public mischief in connection with the incident. Her name has not been made public.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia in March 2024.
