Newcomers to competitive lawn bowling, the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club is very proud to be sending their winning Women’s Novice Triples team to the Provincial Championships to be held at the Kingston Lawn Bowling Club on August 24-25, 2019.
Skip Terri Follis, second Pat Taylor, and lead Angela Fowle won two out of three tough games against a rival team from the Midland Lawn Bowling Club at the District Playdowns at the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club on August 10, 2019. With this achievement, the team won the right to advance to the Provincial Championships.
The Ontario Lawn Bowling Association is divided up into 16 districts, and the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club belongs to District 13. There are six lawn bowling clubs within District 13 located in Barrie, Collingwood, Midland, Orillia, Stayner, and Bracebridge. District 13 holds “playdowns”, or competitions, to determine who will represent the district in the following categories at the provincial level: singles, pairs, senior triples, mixed pairs, novice triples, and novice singles.
“The Muskoka club just opened in 2017, and winning at the District level against very established clubs is quite an achievement for our club”, explained Sally Mills, President of the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club. “Generally, the more established clubs have more experienced coaches, and have participated in many District Playdowns and Provincial Championships over the years. We are just so proud of our women’s team, and how well all our members are progressing.”
“The two Muskoka men’s teams played very well,” said Mills, but came second against teams from the Midland Lawn Bowling Club and Stayner Lawn Bowling Club.
