Multiple Schools Were Placed Into Hold And Secure After Two Incidents In Orillia

The Orillia OPP was involved in two separate incidents as a precaution multiple area schools were placed into hold and secure.

Police say at 10 a.m. on April 14, 2023 officers responded to a mental health call in the area of Barrie Road. Officers had reason to believe the individual posed risk to public safety and Harriett Todd Elementary School and Twin Lakes High School were placed on hold and secure. OPP Officers along with members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), K9 Unit and Rama Police Service, located a male not on school property, who was apprehended and transported to a local hospital.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Orillia OPP Officers responded to a complaint from a local business owner who reported seeing a youth with a possible firearm in the area of West Street North and Fittons Road. Officers attended and area schools, Patrick Fogarty High School and Monsignor Lee Separate School were placed in a hold and secure.

Orillia OPP Officers along with the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) commenced an investigation in the area and no credible threats were identified. As part of the investigation officers determined no threat to public safety existed and the Hold and Secures have been released.
