At the Air Cadet League Annual General Meeting in November 2019, Warrant Officer 2nd Class (WO2) Michael Bennett was awarded the Brigadier-General Robert Shield Award for the Top Air Cadet in Ontario. He has shown that hard work and motivation has helped him become one of the best.
WO2 Bennett joined the 724 Midland Lions Air Cadet Squadron at the age of 12 years. Since the very beginning, he had one goal in mind… to become a pilot.
Bennett achieved his Glider Pilot License through the Cadet Program in 2018. When applying for his Power Pilot License, he tied with another cadet for the top score on the National Flying Exam. W02 Bennett and six other cadets were selected to attend a flying site at KF Aero Airport in Manitoba where he flew a GROB-120 aircraft.
Bennett has worked hard in achieving numerous awards and commendations as a 724 Midland Lion. He has completed Bronze and Silver Duke Of Edinburgh, Silver for Effective speaking in Ontario, Lord Strathcona medal and his Air Cadet Service Medal. Alongside his accomplishments, he remains busy while participating on the Marksmanship Team and as the pipe Major for the 724 Midland Lions Pipes and Drums. WO2 Bennett hopes to attend the International Air Cadet Exchange Program this summer and move on to post secondary at Seneca to work on his career as a pilot in the CAF.
