Make Halloween A Safe And Fun Night

0

Halloween can be an exciting time for children and with the distraction of candy and costumes safety rules can be easily forgotten. The OPP wants to see that every child has an enjoyable and safe Halloween evening. Below are some safety tips to assist in making the night a memorable one for both parents/guardians and children.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS:

  • Children under the age of nine should be accompanied by an adult or responsible older child.
  • Never trick or treat alone, go with a group or adult.
  • Always let parents/guardians know which route you will be taking and what time you are likely to return home.
  • Choose face paint instead of masks (masks restrict your ability to see potential hazards).
  • Never go inside a home to get treats.
  • Carry a flashlight and use reflective materials to increase visibility to drivers.
  • Trick or treat in familiar areas that are well lit.
  • Never crisscross along the street. Cross at crosswalks or intersections.
  • Walk never run and use sidewalks if available. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic.
  • Always have your treats checked by an adult before eating them.

Drivers are reminded to drive with caution and be on the lookout for trick or treaters. Please reduce your distractions and stay alert; remember to enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully and proceed with caution.
