Five local artists have come together with YWCA Muskoka to offer a limited-edition run of greeting cards created for the holiday season in support of the YWCA’s programs for women and girls.
This summer, YWCA Muskoka asked artists to donate images of their winter-themed artwork to be printed as part of the Gifts That Matter series of cards. A small panel considered the 46 entries and selected five images to be printed for the initial offering of the cards. The card series features paintings by local artists Martha Davis, Gayle Dempsey, Janice Feist, Donna Kearney and Debbie Punnewaert. Davis prints the cards locally at Moose Feathers Muskoka in Port Carling and each one of them is signed by the artist.
“As one of the founders of the Community YWCA of Muskoka, I have always been a champion of positive change for women and girls through education, leadership and advocacy,” Dempsey said. “I am delighted to continue my support and be a part of this wonderful new, creative initiative through the work that I am now doing in the arts.”
The five cards are available online as well as in store at The Art Annex in Bracebridge and Artisans of Muskoka in Huntsville. They cost $25 per card or $100 for five cards and all proceeds go directly to YWCA Muskoka.
Hannah Lin, executive director of YWCA Muskoka, said she wants to thank all the artists that submitted images as well as the retailers that have agreed to sell the cards. She encourages Muskoka residents to consider buying the cards in support of local women and children.
“Your $25 donation to YWCA Muskoka adds immeasurable value to the lives of others and replaces buying a small gift item for someone on your Christmas list,” Lin said. “Plus the recipient gets a beautiful original art keepsake card from a local artist.”
