Snow squall watch issued for: Barrie – Orillia – Midland.

Lake effect snow squalls are expected to become organized late this afternoon or early this evening in the Orillia area, according to an alert from Environment Canada (EC).

The lake effect snow squalls beginning tonight are expected to weaken early Saturday morning. Under the heaviest snow squalls, visibility will be significantly reduced and snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres will be possible, according to EC.

Snow squall watches are issued “when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.” Visibility may be reduced suddenly and accumulating snow may cause difficulty navigating roads, walkways and parking lots.
