The Huntsville Otters Major Midget Hockey team is holding a tag day on March 15 to fundraise for their trip to the Ontario Minor Hockey Association finals.
The event will be held at the Canadian Tire, the Bank of Montreal next to LCBO and the Beer Store in Huntsville between 3 and 7 p.m. A tag day refers to a fundraiser where those who donate receive a tag. The money will go toward extra costs associated with the team’s trip and they hope to raise enough to send the team to the finals in a coach bus.
“They’ve done so well this year in the playoffs,” said Jay Bell, a parent of one of the players. “There’s probably eight or nine kids on this team that are retiring this year, that are aged out, and what’s taking is place is a dream for them.”
The team’s home opener is at the Don Lough Arena in Huntsville on March 16 at 9 p.m. and March 17 at 4 p.m., followed by the Midget AE team at 5:30.
