Gravenhurst Is Removing Snow From The Downtown Starting Tonight

File Photo

Gravenhurst Road crews will be initiating snow lift (snow bank) operations downtown commencing Thursday, December 29th. To limit the impact on pedestrians and vehicular traffic, snow lift operations are conducted overnight, typically starting at 9:00 pm and concluding at 7:00 am the following day. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution while these works are being performed and are reminded not to park vehicles on municipal roads overnight in accordance with By-law 2016-92.

While snow lifts will initially be focused on in-town priority roads, these operations will be expanded, where deemed necessary, to include local streets and cul-de-sacs over the next several weeks. Snow lift operations will also include reducing the height of snowbanks adjacent to school crosswalks. The Town will provide regular updates as the operations progress.

As the town transitions towards cleaning up road corridors following a significant series of winter events, Mayor Lorenz would like to also thank the staff who have been putting in long and difficult hours over the holiday season, including emergency service providers and residents who have been helping out their neighbours.

Over the next few days, temperatures are also currently being forecasted to be above seasonal norms, and with the recently fallen snow, melting conditions will occur. During this continued period of inclement weather, residents are reminded of the importance of having a 72-hour emergency preparedness kit.
