The OPP Forensic Identification Units have been called to the scene of a fire that destroyed a structure early this morning on Gravenhurst Parkway near the Muskoka Airport.
The structure had already collapsed when the Gravenhurst Fire Department responded to reports of a fire around 2:25 a.m. on April 6. OPP Sergeant Jason Folz said the forensic units are helping the fire department and the Muskoka Crime Unit determine the cause of the blaze and that there were no fatalities. Folz said it’s not uncommon for the forensics units to help gather evidence in these cases. Stations 1 and 2 were dispatched after multiple 9-1-1 calls reported the structure fire. Units that arrived on scene reported that the structure was fully involved and had already collapsed. The department then began defensive operations and requested allied agencies as part of standard protocol.
One pump, one rescue, three tankers with 17 firefighters and two chief officers were at the scene of the fire. The Incident Commander declared the fire “under control” around 3:30 a.m.
