Familiar Leaders Announced As Georgian’s Two New Vice Presidents

Georgian College announces two familiar faces and recognized leaders at the college as its newest vice presidents.

David Johnson is promoted to Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services, and Suzie Addison-Toor to Vice President, Student Success, effective Jan. 9.

“I’m pleased to share that – following a thorough and comprehensive national search – both successful candidates are current employees,” said Kevin Weaver, Georgian College’s President and CEO. “This is indicative of the quality of Team Georgian since interest in these roles was high and the competition fierce. David and Suzie are well known among students, employees and partners for their inspiring leadership and have each made substantial contributions to Georgian since they arrived. I know they will continue to bring their energy, talent and experience to all they accomplish and work tirelessly in collaboration with the entire Senior Leadership Team to ensure we deliver an unrivaled student experience.”

Johnson joined Georgian in 2005 as Director, Information Technology. Over the years, he accepted roles with increasing responsibility, including Executive Director, Enrolment Management and Information Technology, and Associate Vice President, Digital Innovation. Notably, he led the development and implementation of a multi-year, multi-faceted, college-wide digital innovation plan. His portfolio will include Accounting, Financial Planning, Campus Safety Services, Facilities Management, Legal and Risk Management, Institutional Research, Information Technology, and Digital Innovation.

“I’m really looking forward to this new role and continuing to make an impact not only on the student experience, but the employee experience as well,” said Johnson.

He holds a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from Heriot-Watt University, a Bachelor of Mathematics from University of Waterloo, and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant and Associate Chartered Management Accountant.

Addison-Toor joined Georgian in 2008 after 15 years of innovative community leadership creating and growing several non-profit enterprises. She held a series of leadership roles from program coordinator and manager, to Director of the Centre for Changemaking and Social Innovation. Addison-Toor was instrumental in Georgian achieving its designation as Canada’s first – and only – Ashoka U changemaker college. She holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from McMaster University.Addison-Toor will be accountable for Accessibility and Well-being, Athletics and Recreation, Co-op Education and Career Success, Counselling, Indigenous Services and Access Programs, Libraries and Academic Success, Social Innovation and Student Success, and Student Life.

“My 15 years at Georgian as faculty, support staff and as an administrator have taught me the power of collaboration, connectedness and engagement,” said Addison-Toor. “I look forward to supporting our team of teams to work together to ensure that students flourish at Georgian and are seen, heard, valued and feel that they belong. I’m both honoured and excited to support and champion our diverse community of learners as we create and implement a differentiating and unrivaled student experience.”

Georgian announced a search for three vice presidents earlier this fall to address upcoming retirements and reinforce our commitment to an unrivaled student experience. The search for a Vice President, External Relations and Enrolment, is in the final phases and an announcement will be made within the coming weeks.
