E-Bike Operator Charged With Impaired After Collision In Midland

An E-Bike rider who caught the eye of several community members as a possible impaired operator in the area of Fourth Street, Midland crashed into a guard rail at 5:13 p.m. November 5, 2022 on Fourth Street near Ontario Street.

As a result of the crash, attending officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services secured the scene and triaged the lone injured rider and an impaired driving investigation was commenced.

The investigation revealed sufficient grounds to criminally charge Peter Pyman 48 years of Midland with Operation while impaired-Alcohol and further with Operation while Impaired- blood concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on December 1, 2022 and as well, faces 90 day drivers licence suspensions as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and a forty five day vehicle impound.

The accused was transported to a Midland area hospital for medical treatment of injuries sustained in the crash by at scene paramedics and later released.

OPP officers conducted 31 R.I.D.E. program check stops within the detachment area over the November 3- 7, 2022 timeframe checking 477 drivers for signs of impairment.
