Canada Day Event Raises $59,204 For Andy’s House Hospice Muskoka

The Township of Muskoka Lakes held a cheque presentation at a regular meeting of Council on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 for the 2019 Muskoka Lakes Canada Day Event. The event raised a total of $59,204 for Andy’s House Hospice Muskoka and Muskoka Victim Services to support flood victims.
Since 1998, the Mayor of the Township of Muskoka Lakes has held an annual charity golf tournament in support of not-for-profit and community organizations who need help to fulfill their important role of providing much needed services to residents. On July 1, 2019, the Mayor hosted a Muskoka Lakes Canada Day Event at Clevelands House in Minett as an alternative to the golf tournament. The event featured family friendly activities such as children’s programming, fire truck tours, a BBQ, live music, discounted water sport activities, VIP area, auction items, ski show performance and a fireworks display.
“I am very pleased with the success of the Muskoka Lakes Canada Day Event,” said Phil Harding, Mayor. “I would like to thank all the sponsors, partners and volunteers who helped make this event possible. Supporting these two organizations provides a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many people and our community.”
Bob Potts and Mary Grady, Chairperson of Andy’s House Hospice Muskoka, and Eva Zachary, Executive Director of Muskoka Victim Services were on hand for the presentation.
“On behalf of Muskoka Victim Services, thank you to the Township of Muskoka Lakes for the kind donation to support victims of the 2019 flood,” said Eva Zachary. “We would also like to extend a special thank you to Mayor Harding and his staff for their efforts and focus to help the citizens of Muskoka Lakes.”
“Hospice Muskoka and Andy’s House Hospice is grateful to the Mayor and Council to have been chosen as a beneficiary for the Muskoka Lakes Canada Day Event,” said Mary Grady. “The family fun event was a great opportunity to teach our youth that volunteering and giving back to the community is not only fun but rewarding.”
