Bracebridge Public School Hosts First-Ever Chill Fair

On February 9, Bracebridge Public School (BPS) hosted a Chill Fair to showcase their learning about mental health and coping strategies.

Throughout the evening, three intermediate classes hosted various stations that presented on topics they are currently learning in the classroom, including healthy eating, what is stress?, the brain, and coping strategies, all with a focus on mental health.

At the beginning of the event, families were given a “passport,” which was stamped at each station they visited. At the end of the event, each completed passport was collected for a chance to win a health-related prize.

When asked about their thoughts and learning from the Chill Fair, this is what BPS students had to say:

“It was important for people to learn about coping skills and to pave the way for people to reach out about mental health.”

“From conversations, I realized that more people struggle locally with mental health.”

“I felt anxious about participating in the Chill Fair, but it was relieving to help people realize they aren’t alone – that other people struggle with mental health.”
