A local figure skater from the Bracebridge Skating Club won fifth place in her category at the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships in March.

Regan French placed fifth in the women’s Star 5 under 13 category at the championship in Mississauga from March 7 to 10. The Star categories exist as part of the Skate Canada Star Program, which also dictates assessments for skaters at different skill levels. This year was the first time French qualified for a provincial championship. She competed against 30 other skaters at the competition held in the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.
French’s coach Jeff Trott said that while he’s only been working with her for six months, she’s come a long way.
“It was really nice that her final skate of the year was a clean program that she’s been trying to do with the new season’s best work, so it couldn’t have possibly gone any better for her,” Trott said. “It was a great way to finish her season.”
