Walt Schmid, director of Public Works for the Town of Bracebridge, was given a Long Service Award from the Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) at the Association’s Awards Luncheon on Feb. 26.
The award recognizes employees who have given long years of valuable services in the cause of good roads and Schmid received it during the OGRA’s Annual Conference in Toronto from Feb. 24 to Feb. 27. Schmid started on as director of Public Works for the Town of Bracebridge in September 2012 after working as the chief administrative officer (CAO) for the Township of Muskoka Lakes and the Town of Huntsville.
“Walt has shown great leadership and incredible dedication to the public sector,” said Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith. “He is held in high esteem by Council, Town staff and the community he serves and we congratulate him and thank him for his significant contributions to the Town.”
Before his time as a municipal CAO, Schmid worked with the City of Kingston in a series of senior municipal positions in the engineering, operations and public works portfolio areas starting in 1988.
“In addition to several years working with private sector consulting firms, Walt’s career has spanned 35 years of dedicated public service in the municipal sector,” said CAO John Sisson, who nominated Schmid for this award.
Councillor Steve Clement, Public Works Manager of Operations Randy Bissonette and family members Evan Schmid and Kelsey Schmid also attended the award presentation.
