A family of four was awoken by the dog barking and the sound of the smoke alarm this morning, allowing them to safely escape a house fire.
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department from stations two, three and one got the call at around 7 a.m. Thursday morning on Highway 60 west of Limberlost Road. The family encountered smoke, but there were no injuries. The fire department said damage is pegged at $335,000.
This fire comes with another reminder from Mike Vadlja, fire prevention officer with the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of having working smoke alarms,” Vadlja said. “This is a great example of how they work to give the early warning to safely escape. Could have been a lot different result without them.”
The origin of the fire, cause and circumstances are currently under investigation.
