On April 26, 2024 near 9:26 p.m. an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment was conducting stationary traffic patrol on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township. The police vehicle being operated was equipped with a Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) at which time the ALPR made notification of a possible suspended driver operating a north bound Toyota Tacoma.
A vehicle stop was made resulting in the officer upon speaking with the lone driver. A series of investigations were commenced and as a result, charges with the following offences contrary to the Highway Traffic Act were issued to the 47-year-old male driver of Southampton.
- Driving while under suspension
- Use plates not authorized
- Entire plate not plainly visible
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act
The accused will appear before the Ontario Provincial Offences Court at a future date and his vehicle was subjected to a tow and impound invoice for seven days as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines for the involved vehicle.
