86 Charges, 27 Warnings During Two-Day Commercial Vehicle Safety Blitz

Huronia West OPP with the assistance of the Central Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team laid 86 charges and issued 27 warnings during a two-day commercial motor vehicle safety inspection blitz.

The safety inspections took place March 16 and 17, 2022. Qualified officers set up inspection stations in both Springwater and Clearview Townships to ensure safe operation by commercial motor vehicles (CMV) and other vehicles, as well. The goal of the campaign is to enhance CMV and non-commercial vehicle driver safety. These large vehicles can create catastrophic outcomes when involved in collisions on our Ontario roads.
While there were no vehicles towed from the road, several drivers had to take action to comply with load issues prior to departing the stop.

Road safety is a shared responsibility and we all have a role to play. Commercial vehicles are heavy and require greater stopping distance. Motorists are reminded to leave plenty of space for these large vehicles to slow and stop safely.
Thank you to the majority of responsible drivers who contribute to safe roads. Please drive cautiously, courteously and report unsafe drivers to OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 in emergency.
