2017 Gravenhurst Built Heritage Awards Recipients Announced

The Town of Gravenhurst Municipal Heritage Committee is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Built Heritage Awards. The 2017 recipients include:

  • The Painted Door (240 Muskoka Road South)
  • Lone Pine Inn (581 Phillip St. East)
  • Gypsy Market Mews (260 Muskoka Road South)
  • The Islander Wheelhouse located at Muskoka Discovery Centre *(completely through volunteer efforts)

“The Municipal Heritage Committee recognizes built heritage as recent projects which are culturally significant, aesthetically pleasing, are of good quality and craftsmanship or projects that restore a buildings heritage features,” explained Hank Smith, Municipal Heritage Committee Chair. “This Award is a way of recognizing projects that exemplify Gravenhurst’s Built Heritage and promotes high quality projects that otherwise may go unnoticed.”

The Built Heritage Award Program has been in place since 2013, nominations are selected through the Municipal Heritage Committee. Since its inception, the Committee has awarded seventeen Built Heritage Awards to projects across the municipality. All of this year’s recipients will be recognized at ‘Music on the Barge’ in Gull Lake Rotary Park during intermission on Sunday July 30.
