20 to 40 cm Of Snow Possible By Sunday For South River, Burk’s Falls

Snow squall watch issued for:
South River – Burk’s Falls,

Conditions are favourable for a prolonged period of significant lake effect snow squalls off of Georgian Bay this weekend. Extremely dangerous travel is expected within these snow squalls.

Hazards:
Local snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm by Sunday. Higher amounts are possible in the most persistent lake effect snow bands.
Visibilities may be reduced to near zero in heavy snow and local blowing snow.

Timing:
Saturday morning through Sunday.

Discussion:
Snows squalls are expected to develop Saturday morning and persist through Sunday as a result of southwesterly winds off of Georgian Bay.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Road closures are possible.
