Southern Georgian Bay OPP were out over the weekend conducting R.I.D.E. check stops and enforcing traffic laws on area roadways here in North Simcoe. Officers conducted three R.I.D.E. check stops in the area checking 150 vehicles for impaired driving offences and no drivers were investigated for those offences by the officers.
Two area drivers had their vehicles towed after being stopped by officers on patrol. On October 20, 2019 a 16-year-old male driver was stopped on Simcoe County Road 6 , Tiny Township after an officer was able to obtain a speed of 149 kilometers per hour on the vehicle he was operating in an 80 kilometer per hour zone. The driver had his licence suspended for seven days and his vehicle towed and impounded for seven days as part of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS). He was issued a summons for Stunt Driving and Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act to appear in Penetanguishene court at a future date.
A second driver was operating her vehicle on Highway 93 in Tiny Township on October 19,2019 when an OPP officer operating the Automatic Licence Recognition Camera Vehicle (ALPC) detected a suspended driver and stopped the vehicle she was operating. The officer confirmed the data and issued the 19-year-old female a summons to appear in Penetanguishene court at a future date for the offences of Drive Under Suspension and Fail to Have Current Validation contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Officers also responded to 15 calls for service relating to traffic complaints on area roadways.
